How To Care Your Car
May 15, 2018
The upholstery in your car normally goes through a lot of wear and tear than most people realize. Spilled drinks, soiled shoes, pets and kids can quickly make the upholstery unsightly. The following are 10 tips to help you keep your upholstery in great shape:
1. Act on Spilled Drinks Urgently
When you or someone else in the car spills a drink onto the car seat, you should deal with the spill quickly. Coffee, sodas and juices can cause stubborn stains, so you should clean up the mess. Spill some cold water onto the affected area and use a paper towel or clean rag to blot the areas to absorb any excess liquid.
2. Remove Difficult Stains with Glass Cleaner
If the upholstery in your vehicle has stubborn stains, you can use a glass cleaner to remove the stains. Apply the cleaner on the stain and use a paper towel to blot the area.
3. Use Hairspray on Ink Stains
Any ink stains in your car can be removed with hairspray. Just spray the affected area, wait a few minutes and wipe it off after a few minutes. The stain would have vanished.
4. Do Not Let Blood Stains Set
When blood sets on the carpet or upholstery, getting the stain off can be quite a challenge. Ideally, you should clean blood stains before they set. You can use laundry detergent and some water to remove the stain.
5. Clean Vinyl Properly
A damp rag and some baking soda is all you need to clean vinyl upholstery.
6. Deep-Clean Your Carpet
Use a hard-bristled brush and a mixture of dish soap, a cup of vinegar and hot water to give your carpet and upholstery a thorough cleaning.
7. Dry Leather Properly
Leather and water do not go together. After cleaning the leather seats, be sure to dry it thoroughly.
8. Brighten Your Carpet with Ammonia
Ammonia has the ability to brighten a fading carpet. Use one pint of water and half a cup of ammonia to mop your carpet.
9. Remove Indentations with an Iron
If there are fabric indentations, cover the affected area with a damp towel and run a hot iron on top to remove the indentations.
10. Know When to Call for Help
When it comes to car detailing and efficiency, be sure to call the pros when you are not able to do something. This will ensure the job gets done properly.
